Internet Radio

Millet's The Angelus
As noon just went by, I heard the angelus bells peal on the radio. This is common practice on Irish radio, but I was listening to a Polish radio station in the U.S. WPNA (for Polish National Alliance) broadcasts from the Oak Park Arms (the station was formerly named WOPA) a half mile from where I'm sitting. On Saturday mornings from 9am to 1pm (CST) it broadcasts a couple of Irish American programs full of local news (including where all the fund-raising dances will be held), interviews and old-fashioned Irish music. It's corny and amateurish and consequently annoying or charming depending on your bent of mind. There's a link to WPNA internet radio among the Chicago links to the right. Also a link to WGN radio which you can listen to on the internet if you happen to be outside WGN's wide broadcast area.
Reminder: If you're so inclined, the broadcast from my cousin Tom Walsh's Tankers Bar will be tomorrow, Sunday, at 2pm-4pm (CST) on Radio Kerry.

Flying High

To get a bird's-eye-view of your neighborhood, type your address into Terrafly and let them lift you up.

Chi Links

Nothing in the old mailbox lately. I've added some Chicago links to the right-hand links column if you're inclined to do a little midwest surfing.

Testing

Sharpen your pencils or grab your 'mouse.' Annie has a test for you.

Emeril

Uncle Jack liked to surf the internet at the Twin Lakes public library. When I was showing him how he could have his own My Yahoo page with links to favorite web sites, this was the first web page he wanted added to his favorites list.

Ancient Family Coat of Arms

Punch it into Google. Put it on your T-Shirt. Guaranteed authentic, as long as you believe - and clap your hands if you believe.

Ocean View on Mars

Ever wonder what the view would be like if you could stand on an evaporated shoreline of an ancient salt-water ocean on Mars? (Be sure to scroll right to enjoy the panorama.)

S.W.A.T. Team

Spring is coming and the next thing you know, it will be summer. Better start practicing.

Pictures

People Taking Pictures. Ben has resumed blogging and posts a link to photos he took at Epcot on St Patty's Day. The Mom was happy to receive a photo Jim took of flower arranger Pat today.

Anticipating Holidays

From Héléna in Dublin:
How are you? I am crazy busy with my teaching practice, its one big rush, but the kids are good fun!! Looking forward to Easter and my holidays (2weeks) and I am off chocolate for Lent so I am looking forward to getting a big fat double chocolate easter egg!!!
How are things in Chicago? Weather is cold here and extremely unpredictable..hailstones, rain, sunny, windy, all in the space of a few hours...Irish weather is soooo weird!!!
Anyway, gotta go!!! I am supposed to be looking up flights for the summer, got to go somewhere!!!

Happy B-Day, Leanne

.
Some web pages, especially news stories, may disappear a few days after being posted. Or they may be 'archived' so you have to pay to see them. Other web pages linger on long after you might expect them to go away. If you type Leanne Voss into Google, you'll still be directed to this page from her college days. Hey, Leanne, Happy 26th to you, young lady

Dancing Queen

From Colleen H:
Here are a few photos. The first one was taken today. The other two are taken at the downtown parade. As you'll see... Sean was quite enthused about the whole thing. He fell asleep just before the parade started and woke back up as we reached the car.

Darn Remotes

In Dave Barry's humor column today, he mentions possible tax deductions you may want to consider, including "your new 'flat screen' television with a remote control boasting so many advanced features that you have to call your son nightly so he can explain to you how to turn it off." That doesn't exactly describe the Mom, except once in a while.
