Churchill at Sea
If you've been there, done that, seen it all on the web, and are frankly bored, surf over sometime to the Library of Congress, called America's Memory, a seemingly endless collection of odds and ends, much of it pretty dusty but lots of stuff that will tickle your interest. This photo of Churchill recrossing the Atlantic after a 1941 meeting with FDR grabbed me.Maintenance
Spent a good part of the day playing around with this blog, though the results aren't readily apparent. Trying out a different photo server, which actually seems to work, you should be seeing photos now instead of boxes with little red x's. Some of the photos are actually links, click them to see what happens.
You'll notice I'm posting very little correspondence lately. I have to complain to my email provider - they seem to be losing all the mail you've been writing me. But you just keep writing - I'm sure it will get through to me eventually.

No Cherry Blossoms

Thanks for asking! In an unfortunate turn of events, my friend (Kathleen's Godmother) whom we were scheduled to visit and stay with [in D.C.], was called out of town on a business trip. ... Therefore, it'll have to wait until next year. One of these years I'll get there...I HOPE!!!

Block that pop-up !
Both Google and Yahoo offer free 'toolbars' which include 'pop-up blockers.' I've been using the Google one for a while and have blocked 3,578 pop-ups so far. Stopped into a cyber cafe the other day and was unpleasantly reminded what it's like to use a computer without a blocker. Which helped prepare me for this game. How many pop-ups can you block before the system crashes?
Update: I've been visiting this game with the sound turned off. Just discovered it has a soundtrack.

The 2004 festival marks the 92nd celebration of the original gift of the 3,000 cherry trees from the city of Tokyo to the people of Washington, DC in 1912.
It also marks the 150th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Peace and Amity between the U.S. and Japan in 1854, officially beginning formal relations between the two countries.

Irish Time
Tuned into the Radio Kerry program from Tankers Bar to discover it was half over. My first thought was that it must have started early, but I surfed to the O'Connell Bridge webcam and saw that Irish time was seven hours ahead of Chicago instead of six. Then it occurred to me that they must have begun daylight savings time already, a week ahead of us. Surfed to this site which confirmed my guess. What can I do when the world conspires to play a trick on me but laugh along with the joke?
I missed all of the 'family' portion of the show, did manage to hear some 'authentic' folk singing.
Update: Added Time and Date link to Links column, which maybe I'll remember to consult next time I have an appointment in another time zone.
